Strategic Community Plan

A Strategic Community Plan is the most important document developed by local government. It is shaped through meaningful engagement with the community to capture their long-term aspirations for the places they live, work and play.

The Plan describes the vision the City will strive to achieve over the next ten years, where it will focus its efforts and how it will measure progress. The Plan is used to build a ‘road map’ that leads towards the vision. The ‘road map’ is the City’s Corporate Business Plan that outlines in detail which actions, plans, projects and strategies will be used to deliver the community’s vision for the future.

Over several months, the City engaged extensively with the community to understand what residents love about Greater Geraldton and where they hope to see growth and improvement.

From this engagement, the community’s top priorities were identified as:

  • An engaged community that is safe
  • Greener suburbs and enhanced natural areas
  • A sustainable and diverse economy
  • Steadfast leadership and advocacy

These priorities form the basis of our four strategic themes:

Strategic Community Plan Themes

This feedback shaped the City's Strategic Community Plan 2025–2035: Your Voice, Our Future, which reflects the community’s aspirations for the next decade.

These focus areas will be at the core of our services, events, initiatives and programs over the next 10 years, and the Annual Budget and Long Term Financial Plan are in place to support these actions.

Long Term Financial Plan

The City's Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) 2025-2035 is a high-level informing strategy that outlines the City's approach to delivering infrastructure and services to the community in a financially sustainable manner.

It also demonstrates the City’s commitment to managing its operations in a way that avoids unsustainable rate increases for ratepayers. The LTFP is aligned to other core planning documents by which the City is accountable to the community including the Strategic Community Plan and the Corporate Business Plan.

The LTFP is a dynamic tool which analyses financial trends over a 10-year period on a range of assumptions and provides the City with information to assess resourcing requirements to achieve its strategic objectives and to allow the City to ensure its future financial sustainability.
